Super Bowl But Make it Spicy

It's Super Bowl and We Are Just Here for the Food!

This Super Bowl we are cheering for New Orleans! Move over Philly and Kansas City, we love Taylor's boyfriend and everything, but we are just here for the food. Super Bowl LIX will be held in the New Orleans Superdome February 9 and it’s the perfect excuse to cook up some of our favorite dishes and set the mood.

This newsletter is dedicated to all the incredible food that makes Super Bowl Sunday so delicious. We are rounding up all our favorite Game Day foods and brought along our friends at Barbaro Mojo for the ride! We are adding a little spice to our spread!

We also have a New Orleans inspired menu that you will love!

We have been working with our locally made favorite hot sauce, Barbaro Mojo. Barbaro Mojo, founded by Mario Cruz, local Miamian, in his search for the perfect hot sauce to help kick up lechon. Mario hosts Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) every year, and they do a big pig roast for friends and family. In 2015, his son Kevin wanted to add more heat to their meal, and thought to add a little spice to the traditional mojo sauce. That same day, while the pig cooked in the caja china, the duo began cooking up what would be the first unofficial batch of Bárabro Mojo Cuban Hot Sauce, and the rest was history.

We love hot sauce! Both of us are constantly on the search for new ones to try out on different recipes. We instantly fell in love with Barbaro Mojo. They have so many delicious flavors, and you can really use it to elevate your meal. We thought this would be the perfect time to show you how to use hot sauce for more than just a little spice on top.

How to Cook With Hot Sauce

Hot Sauce is mostly used to top or sprinkle to add some heat to your favorite dishes but we like to use hot sauce as a part of our recipes. When you are building a sofrito with onion, garlic and peppers it’s a perfect time to add hot sauce. Think of it in the same way you add sazon or other spices to a dish. The flavor of the hot sauce becomes a part of the dish and not just an after thought. Hot sauce isn’t just about the heat. It’s a way to compliment the flavors that are already a part of the dish.

Hot sauce is also perfect added to sauces and marinades. Most of the Barbaro Mojo hot sauces have a mojo base so they are a natural fit to add to our Mojo Marinade or Mojo Criollo. Just imagine a chicken that has been marinaded in our mojo spike with this hot sauce!

We hand picked all our favorite recipes that go perfectly with the game and all of our favorite Barbaro Mojo sauces.

Best Day Ever Hot Sauce:

Honestly this sauce is the dream. You can pair it with almost anything. The mixture of mango, habanero and mojo make for a great base, that freshens up your dish with the heat.

Sriracha Chicken Wings

Tropical Ceviche

Grilled Chicken Sandwich

El Havanero Hot Sauce:

This sauce is the most traditional hot sauce with tomato as the base and spicy habanero pepper to compliment. We like this one paired with some of our hearty stews like Camarones Enchilados, Rabo Encendido or Carne con Papas

For game day we would recommend this sauce on:

Tomato Salsa

Mac-n-Cheesse

Cuban Frita

Pinazo Hot Sauce:

This is the only hot sauce that doesn't have a mojo base so it’s perfect on things you want to add heat from the fresno chilies and hot carolina reaper. We can imagine this hot sauce with our Peruvian Fried rice. The pineapple in this one really helps balance the heat.

Mango Salsa

Guava Ribs

Shrimp Salad

Jalabao Hot Sauce:

This hot sauce gets it’s heat from jalapenos and is balanced out with vinegar and mojo. We love to throw it on something a little heavier or with big flavor because it cuts through and really brings a beautiful balance that makes the sauce shine.

Ham Cheese & Onion Empanadas

Fried Cheese

Yuca Fries

Ceviche Verde

Our Black Bean Chili is a touchdown this month and really any time you want a quick and delicious meal! Our recipe is made in the Instant Pot, which really helps build so much flavor quick. We think the Black Beans really do so much to elevate your classic Chili Recipe. Obviously we are partial to the black bean, but it lends such a creaminess to the chili that you will instantly love.

Chili is a game day staple! It's one of those dishes that feeds a lot of people, and it's hearty and easy to serve. We love to serve it along with different toppings so people can make it their own. Think about things like diced onions, chives, sour cream, and of course Hot Sauce!! We think Best Day Ever or El Havanero will go perfectly with our chili!

New Orleans Inspired Super Bowl Menu:

We can all agree NOLA’s Cajun recipes and soulful sides deserve to be celebrated, which is why we wanted to make a Super Bowl menu that is an ode to The Big Easy.

This is the best of the Southern and Cuban Creole Kitchen. We love dishes like gumbo and red beans that can be made in advance and left bubbling in a pot for everyone to help themselves during the game. Our fried chicken is marinated in mojo but still has that crispy crunch that the Louisiana staple is known for. Whether you say pee-KAHN or pick-AHN, our pecan bars are the perfect dessert to energize you past the half-time show. Cut them up into small bite-sized pieces so you can save room for one of our bread puddings drizzled with our whisky sauce. You will be fooled into thinking you are dining in the Garden District’s famous Commander’s Palace.

Appetizers:

Better Cheddar Cheese Dip

Gumbo

Main:

Fried Chicken

Sides:

Red Beans

White Rice

Cornbread Muffins

Dessert:

Pecan Pie Bars

Donut Bread Pudding

Caramelized Bananas Bread Pudding
